Leapmotor A10: Affordable electric SUV with a range of 500 km

Leapmotor A10: Prisvärd el-SUV med 500 km räckvidd

Chinese company Leapmotor, which has secured support from the Stellantis alliance and is preparing to sell its models in Europe under the Opel brand, unveiled the compact electric crossover A10 at the Guangzhou Auto Show. In addition, the first photos of the “hot” version of the hatchback Leapmotor B05, known in China as the Lafa 5, were published.

The compact SUV A10 is the first Leapmotor model to be built on the new global A-platform. So far, only the preliminary dimensions are known: it is over 4200 mm long and approximately 1800 mm wide and 1600 mm high. The wheelbase is over 2600 mm. The front has a solid panel instead of the traditional grille, and black C-pillars create the illusion of a floating roof. The new model has recessed door handles, a charging port in the left front fender and 18-inch wheels.

According to the designers, the LED taillights are designed to resemble a smiling face. Six exterior colors are available, and the SUV also features a panoramic roof. The interior has not yet been revealed, but the infotainment system is said to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P chip. The media system integrates artificial intelligence and has cloud-based updates throughout the vehicle’s life. A lidar sensor visible on the roof indicates the presence of a sophisticated self-driving system. The autonomous driving system is equipped with a dedicated Snapdragon 8650 processor and an advanced self-parking system.

The Leapmotor A10 is known to be equipped with a lithium-iron-phosphate traction battery, but its capacity has not yet been disclosed. However, an estimated range of 500 km according to the CLTC cycle has been announced. Fast charging is supported: from 30% to 80% in 16 minutes. This should be enough for a range of 250 km. Other technical specifications have not yet been disclosed.

Pre-orders for the Leapmotor A10 are now open. With an expected price of under 100,000 yuan ($14,000), the Leapmotor A10 will compete with the popular BYD Atto 2 (Yuan Plus) crossover. Delivery is scheduled for the first half of 2026. The A10 will later be launched globally, but under the name Leapmotor B03X.

Sales of the Leapmotor Lafa 5 Ultra, whose base version in export markets is called B05, are also expected to start at the same time. The hot hatchback was announced at the same time as the premiere of the electric standard model in September this year. Now, the first live images of the hot hatchback have been published on social media by Leapmotor’s vice president Cao Li.

The Leapmotor Lafa 5 Ultra stands out from its regular siblings with its extensive aerodynamic bodywork, featuring a massive splitter and diffuser, as well as a split spoiler on the boot lid. Side skirts and special 19-inch wheels are also fitted. The photos of the Lafa 5 Ultra were taken on a mountain road for a reason: a pre-production model is undergoing road tests there, suggesting significant modifications to the standard chassis. In addition, Chinese press predicts that the hatchback will feature dual-motor all-wheel drive with increased power, although the standard Lafa 5 has a single electric motor producing 180 hp or 218 hp on the rear axle. The first official unveiling of the driver’s hatchback will take place soon.
