A year ago, the Mazda EZ-6 liftback debuted, which turned out to be a redesigned version of Changan’s Shenlan SL03 model. Now the Changan Mazda joint venture has prepared a second local car under the Japanese brand – the Mazda EZ-60 crossover. It is based on the electric SUV Shenlan S07, but the extra year has not gone without a reason. If the EZ-6 liftback is easily recognizable as a Chinese donor, then the Mazda EZ-60 crossover is very different from the original in appearance.

Not only the front and rear have changed. In fact, all the external body panels have been redesigned. The window line and the rear roof pillars have been redesigned: the Mazda EZ-60 really looks like the original models of this brand. All this has affected the overall dimensions: compared to the donor model, the length has increased by 100 mm at the same time (up to 4850 mm). The width (1935 mm) and height (1620 mm) do not differ so significantly, the wheelbase is 2902 mm instead of 2900 mm. Eight colors are prepared for the body, two of which are created specifically for this model. The wheel diameter is from 19 to 21 inches.

 




The interior of the Mazda EZ-60 crossover also has many differences from the original Shenlan S07 model. The company claims that the design is inspired by Japanese minimalism, although in fact the interior is made in a general Chinese style. But while the Shenlan has a regular screen in the center of the dashboard, the Mazda has a wide dual-screen (26.5 inches) with a resolution of 5K. The on-board electronics are based on a chip manufactured using advanced 4-nm process technology, but the model is not specified. Separate screens for the side cameras are installed on the sides of the front panel, although the basic version will have regular mirrors. Instead of a screen on the dashboard, an augmented reality projector is installed on the windshield, all seats are equipped with heating and ventilation, the audio system has 23 speakers and supports Dolby Atmos. The luggage compartment has a volume from 350 to 2036 liters, and the electric version also has a front compartment of 126 liters.

 





Like its donor, the new Mazda EZ-60 can be a series hybrid or a pure electric vehicle. In the second case, the crossover has an electric motor on the rear axle, a 78 kWh battery and a range of over 600 km. So far, all these characteristics are known. The hybrid has already been certified, so there is more data about it. Under the hood is a naturally aspirated 1.5-liter engine (98 hp), which is not connected to the wheels and works only in generator mode to charge the 31.7 kWh battery. The car is powered by an electric motor with a capacity of 258 hp on the rear axle. It accelerates the 1992 kg crossover to a maximum of 185 km/h. The promised total range without refueling and recharging exceeds 1000 km. All-wheel drive versions have not yet been announced, but the original Shenlan crossover does not have it either.

 

The public debut of the Mazda EZ-60 crossover will take place at the upcoming Shanghai Auto Show. Pricing will be announced and orders will be accepted then.
