Murderbot: Skarsgård as a robot with free will on Apple TV+

Murderbot

Apple TV+ has finally released the first trailer for the upcoming sci-fi comedy series Murderbot, based on the best-selling book series The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells. The series mixes action, dark humor, and existential questions—all with a robot who would rather just watch movies in peace.

A robot with free will – and a bad attitude

At the center of the plot is an android security guard who hacks his way out of his own system and develops free will. But instead of embracing the role of hero, he has one ambition: to binge-watch series in peace, far from people and chaos. Unfortunately for him (and perhaps fortunately for us), he is constantly drawn into new, deadly adventures – against his will.

Star lineup in front of and behind the camera

Starring Alexander Skarsgård (Big Little Lies , The Northman ) as the sarcastic and disinterested Murderbot, the film is directed by Paul and Chris Weitz, the duo behind American Pie and About a Boy .

The plot is about an Android security guard who hacks his own software and gains free will.

Humor, action and a hint of philosophy

Murderbot promises to deliver not only laughs and suspense, but also a nuanced look at big questions like freedom, identity, and what it really means to be human. The series is perfect for those who like sci-fi with heart and humor – and maybe a little existential crisis thrown in the mix.

Murderbot premieres May 16, exclusively on Apple TV+.
