The gaming phone market has long been dominated by models that only differ from regular smartphones through better cooling, RGB lighting, extra buttons and custom software. But AYANEO believes it’s time for a real change – and introduces the Pocket Play, a new type of gaming smartphone with a physical, retractable game controller. The result is a hybrid between a modern mobile and a handheld console, making it one of the most unique gaming products in years.

A modern Xperia Play – but significantly more ambitious
Although the Sony Xperia Play was the first with a similar concept almost 15 years ago, the time was clearly not ripe then. Today the situation is completely different:
– Mobile processors now have enough performance to run advanced 3D games and PC titles via emulators.
– Screens are bigger, sharper and faster.
– Camera technology and batteries are in a completely different league.
In short: The platform is finally ready for a real gaming smartphone – and AYANEO seems to have understood the mission.

Retractable controller with modern features
The Pocket Play stands out from everything else on the market thanks to its integrated controller that slides out from the bottom of the device. AYANEO has given it classic gaming buttons, D-pads and analog controls – but also two round touchpads inspired by the Steam Deck. These can be used as virtual joysticks or to control the on-screen pointer with high precision.
This makes Pocket Play suitable for both mobile games, emulators, and more PC-like tasks where traditional touch controls don’t live up to expectations.

Design: Clean lines, two colors and clear gaming focus
The first images show that the Pocket Play will come in black and white, with a design that resembles a premium phone more than a dedicated gaming machine. It has:
-
Dual rear view camera
-
LED-blittar
-
Stereo speakers
-
USB-C-port
AYANEO has not yet shared technical specifications such as processor, screen type or battery capacity, but the company promises more details closer to launch.

An exciting comeback for real mobile gaming
With Pocket Play, AYANEO is trying to revive an idea that has been dormant for a long time – but with today’s technology, this could actually be when the concept gets its real breakthrough. If the price and specifications match the ambitions, Pocket Play could be the most interesting hybrid between phone and game console of the year.
More information is expected soon, and AYANEO promises a full reveal as the device nears market launch.
